The Worst Avoided, but the Bad Still to Come

Doug Ford is going ahead with many horrible reforms to Ontario's rental system. He stepped back from the brutal destruction to rent control because of public backlash, but he is going forward with several other things that are bound to increase homelessness in the province.

From 2022 to 2024 , homelessness increased by 25 per cent. The tariffs are causing a job crisis as well, and is bound to get harder after the events of the last week.

Ford has called himself a man of the people since the day he started running for office, but has consistently been allying himself with landlords and developers. This law will make it easier to evict for no reason, and harder for tenants to fight back. Now is not the time to stop paying attention. Whether the initial rent control removal was a political move is unclear, however it has successfully made people disregard the other things in the bill.
