The CAQ using women as a tool for political gain. The FQPN responded.
The history of women's rights in Canada and Quebec are two stories of great struggle that was often paved with suppression and violence . Most of Canada saw women voting because of WWI, but women in Quebec got the right to vote in 1940- significantly after most of canada. It was the final province to see this movement. Since then, women have made leaps and bounds of progress, and some of the great feminist leaders came out of the province.
Although the CAQ is pretending that it is a feminist action to introduce this into their legislation , of a conservative, anti choice group were to take power, feminist groups feel it could be used to remove rights and put limits around abortion. Currently rules around abortion are implemented by the patients in dialogue with medical professionals, just like most health care.
The mainstream view has been that no law is the best law for decades, because it avoids the concept of a "debate" around what is commonly viewed in Canada as a fundamental health care right.
The FQPN reached out to me with this, and I have reached out to the leaders tagged in this video. I will update if they respond.
