In an article published by Pivot, it was revealed that as of October 18th, landlords will be able to pass off the majority of their maintenance and renovation costs on to renters.
This new annual calculation will allow the landlord to look at the money they've used on their building every year and portions on to the bill of their renters.
Of course, this might be more acceptable if there was more that renters could do to fight it, but currently the Tribunal is not a useful tool for renters in the long term. If you take your landlord to the TAL, whether you win or lose your case against them, this will be on your record, a record which is permanently accessible to every landlord who you might rent from in the future.
What then, are the next steps?
